Abstract of the article “Empowering Anxious Children and Adolescents During and Post-COVID-19”
Background and Objective:
The outbreak of mental health disorders in children and adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the increase in anxiety and depression symptoms, has drawn significant attention. This vulnerable group may face anxieties that have long-term consequences for their mental health in the future. This article examines strategies to empower children and adolescents to cope with anxiety during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Method:
This article is a systematic review of scientific sources. The sources were searched from reputable online databases such as PubMed, PsycINFO, ELSEVIER, Iranmedex, SID, MedLib, Irandoc, Magiran, Scopus, and PMC Free Article. The articles reviewed include experimental, descriptive, review, and educational studies, with a particular emphasis on data collected during the COVID-19 period and focusing on individuals under 18 years of age.
Findings:
The findings are divided into four main sections:
Family-child interaction methods during the COVID-19 period
Diagnosis of psychological signs and disorders, especially anxiety in children and adolescents
The impact of educational and social environments on negative emotions, including anxiety and worry
Psychological care and methods of empowering children, adolescents, and their families
Conclusion:
Children and adolescents, especially those with mental health disorders, need education and empowerment to cope with anxiety. Key recommendations include:
Teaching problem-solving skills
Physical exercises
Coping strategies for anxiety
Creating a sense of security in children
Healthy lifestyles and relaxation techniques
Teaching positive thinking and seeking professional help
These strategies have been found to be effective in empowering anxious children.
